- 3 large apples (or any fresh fruit on hand) peeled, cored, and thinly sliced. I like granny smith or honey crisp.
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
- 1 egg beaten
- 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- vanilla ice-cream
Preheat Oven to 400Unfold the pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Roll the pastry sheet into a 12-inch square. Place the pastry sheet onto a baking sheet. I use a silpat or baking mat under mine. Brush the edges of the pastry with water. Fold over the edges 1/2 inch on all sides, crimping with your fingers to form a rim. Prick the center of the pastry thoroughly with a fork. Brush the pastry edges with the egg. Arrange the apple slices on the pastry, overlapping slightly. Stir the brown sugar, ginger, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the apples.
Bake for 25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown. Let the pastry cool on the baking sheet on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
