Nifty Dad Approved Gifts for Men
We’re coming up on my Dad’s birthday. In his honor I thought I’d share a list of nifty Dad approved gifts for men. The word nifty is one my dad uses. It’s the perfect word for a dad approved list, right?
Here’s an Amazon round-up, plus a practical idea. Incidentally, this post contains links where I might earn a small affiliate fee to help offset the costs of running this blog. This is at no additional cost to you. For those of you wondering how a blogger earns an income, this is one of those ways. Never fear, you can depend on me to only recommend products that I really like. I hope you will too!
1. Echo Dot
Let’s start with a little box. I’ve laughingly referred to Amazon Alexa as one of my favorite “room mates”. Even if I only used her to keep my shopping lists, timers, and alarm clock, Alexa would be a bargain. Her more advanced features make her a valuable heavy-lifter in our household. We have our lights and thermostat routines connected, music, garage door…I could go on and on!
Since you know that I’m not the one that connected all of this tech, and since my hubby is a dad, then I’ll say this is definitely a dad favorite! Dad might love having one in his garage, the back-yard to control the cafe lights and garden speakers, and certainly the bedroom and family rooms in your home.
2. Nest Learning Thermostat
This is the thermostat my hubby bought for our home to replace every thermostat in the house. Now he can adjust them remotely, or via Alexa. The device learns our patterns, and also provides reporting on our usage. It’s slick, and easy to use.
3. Audible E-Book Subscription
Audible Gift MembershipsMy husband and I travel a lot and although we both love to read, it’s fun to listen to audio books during long road trips. Also, Dad could listen while commuting, or exercising. We have really enjoyed our Audible subscription. Dad will too!
4. Anker Cell Phone Mount
Staying with the road trip theme, this is one of my husband’s favorite things. We each have two of these in our car, one for the driver, one for the passenger. The mount plugs into the charger for the phone to charge without a cord. You simply place the phone in and tighten the bracket around it. When you get out of the car, simply press the button on the side and it releases your phone so you can take it with you. We’ve tried several different types of phone mounts, and this one is our hands-down favorite.
5. Ugg Slippers
These slippers were a huge hit with both my dad and my hubby. They are warm, but not too warm, and cushy comfy. They last a long time, too! I’ve never bought slippers for the men in my life, but I’m so glad I did!
6. Leaders Eat Last, by Simon Senek
This book is on my husband’s list. If you’re not familiar with Simon Senek, check him out here on this Ted Talk. He’s interesting and personable. If the man in your life enjoys reading about leadership, this is a winner.
7. Buy Dad a Service
Our neighborhood has a pretty active Facebook page where neighbors post lost and found items, discoveries in the area, and even services offered. When kids are home from school during summer and holidays many have become budding entrepreneurs. One will come to your home and clean and disinfect the big city trash cans for $15 for two. Another kid offers to clean all of the baseboards in your home for only $30. There are car washers, lawn mowers, and window washers. Hire someone to take the load off of Dad’s plate, and help out a neighbor kid in the process. Or pitch in with your siblings and pay for a pro to come clean up the whole yard!
8. Olukai Alapa Li – Men’s Slip On Shoe
My husband bought himself these shoes with a gift card. He loves the footbed and durability of the Olukai shoes. This particular shoe has a fold-down heel so that he can slip on and go. Olukai makes really comfortable shoes and sandals. Introduce your dad to a new brand!
9. Wooden Grill Scraper
No gift list for men would be complete without some grill tools. I first bought one these at a craft fair for all of the men in our family. It turned out to be a huge hit! Wooden scrapers are a lot more safe than metal grill brushes. You don’t risk getting metal remnants in your food. This one is made in the USA, and it has a built in bottle opener for his beer. How cool is that? If you’re shopping too late to get one on time, head on down to your local Home Depot, or Lowes. You can find one there, just maybe not as fancy.
10. French Press Coffee Maker
We have a sign over our coffee area that reads, “Today’s good mood sponsored by coffee.” You can see it here in this post. My man is a big coffee fan. He loves a very good local coffee roaster, not the big coffee chains. My hubby grinds his own beans. If your dad doesn’t have a grinder, you can ask the coffee roaster to grind it for a French press. Or better yet, pop a little grinder into the gift bag. If your dad loves coffee, he will enjoy brewing a great local roast in his own French press coffee maker.
Even if you don’t think your dad will enjoy receiving one of these nifty gifts for men, he will love hearing from you. Zoom is a pretty easy meeting platform to get the family involved from anywhere in the world. Set up a call and invite all of your siblings to a special long-distance virtual party. I’m really blessed that my dad is very technically apt. He has all of the techie toys, and knows how to use them.
