5 Reasons to Make Your Bed Every Day
Don’t you love pretty bed linens? A plush quilt, coordinating blanket and sheets, as well as Euro pillows and shams elevate the look of any bed, turning a bedroom into an oasis. You can ready about my comfort space in this article. If you’ve invested in a lovely set, they you should make your bed every day. This is typically what I tell myself each morning when I get up, especially if I don’t feel like making the bed. Haha!
That’s right. Some mornings I just don’t feel like it, or I get up in a hurry. Then, because I’m the luckiest woman in the world, my hubby makes it. Like this morning. I jumped out of bed when the alarm went off and rushed into the bathroom, leaving my husband in bed. After throwing on my work-out clothes, brushing my teeth, and washing my face, I walked back into the bedroom to make the bed. But my hubby had already done it.
I really appreciate these thoughtful little gifts when my husband takes care of a detail that he knows I enjoy. They’re small, but mighty. Aside from making your spouse happy, here are five reasons you should make your bed every day.
1. A Made Bed Makes the Room
It makes the entire room look made up. When the bed is crisp and tidy, I want to clear everything off of the nightstands and pick up anything else that is laying around. The bed is the focal point of our room, and when it is made, it takes very little effort to neaten the rest.
2. It’s an Easy Win
By making the bed, I start my day off with a win. The first goal of my morning routine is checked off. It only takes a few quick minutes, and already I’ve accomplished something! Hey, it might not seem like much, but it’s great to start your day with a small accomplishment. It makes me feel like everything else will easily jump into place. Try it! You might feel the same.
3. Is Your Room Visible?
I love to open the curtains and windows (weather permitting) and let in the fresh air and sunshine. Since our bedroom is surrounded by windows that are visible from the back garden, as well as from the kitchen and family rooms, keeping the bed made provides a great view of our lovely bedroom with the nicely made bed. If that’s not a concern in your house, perhaps you wouldn’t have to be embarrassed for someone to follow you into the bedroom if you run in there to grab something. If you keep it tidy, it’s always presentable!
4. Your Bedroom is Always Ready for Use
No matter what kind of chaos is happening in the rest of the house, there is always at least one space that is calm, peaceful, and put together. I’m a bit of an introvert, and when we have people in the house, I like having somewhere I can escape to for a moment of quiet and calm. When the bed is made, the room looks comfortable and inviting. We have a large comfortable chair and ottoman where I can sit with my feet up and read, talk on the phone, or attend zoom meetings without disturbing the rest of the household.
5. Your Bedtime Routine is Faster
Finally, it feels so good to jump into a nicely made bed at night. I love to slip between the sheets and settle down into the pillows to read for a while before the lights go out. When the bed is made, you don’t have to spend time and energy straightening out the sheets and blankets before you can get comfy. It’s all ready for you!
I love to switch up the bed from time to time. This time of year, we fold the comforter down, and sleep with only the sheet and blanket. To reinforce the look of coolness in the room, when I make the bed in the morning, I fold the comforter halfway down to expose the contrasting blanket and sheets. But once the weather cools off, we’ll be sleeping under that comforter and I change the way I make it. In the cooler months, I enjoy folding just the top of the comforter down to show a peak of the blanket.
During the holidays, we decorate the bedroom with a holiday quilt, and we switch out the blanket with different colors at other times of the year. It’s fun to freshen the décor for each new season. Our bedroom is a beautiful oasis, and I love to keep it looking that way. Keeping this one space clean and tidy, flows into the rest of the house and with a quick sweep of the tile floors and a dusting of the perpetually dusty counters (a gift of the desert), we’re always ready for guests. I can think of so many reasons to make your bed every day, but these five should convince you.
